NO MORE LIVES FOR FUEL !!!
As I analyse it, the war in Iraq is neither Biblical nor just. But this
article won't be a critique of on-going American imperialism. For
several years now the simplistic pacifists have told us that Bush is
trading "blood for oil". Well, where is the oil? Our rising gas prices
put the lie to the old hippies. Bush and his neo-con advisers may be
rather misguided, but they are not insincere.
The Bushies are nation-builders, not oil-stealers. Strange as it is,
they actually think that they can "bring democracy to the Middle
East" at the point of the bayonet. Bush Republicans are treating
Iraq the way Clinton Democrats treated Somalia, Bosnia and the
new "nation" of Kosovo. One wonders if Mr. Bush's foes are only
upset because he carries out their global interventions on a greater
scale than they have heretofore. As Jesus asked,
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but
considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Matthew 7:3
Humanistic progressives - called the Left in Europe and mis-named
as "Liberals" here in America - are notoriously hypocritical. For
example, they advocate infanticide under the euphemism "abortion",
because they just love children so much that they desire "every child
to be a wanted child". Hitler, one supposes, simply desired that
every German have the "quality of life" of a "real" German. Our
social elites are his step-children, even as they pretend to vilify him.
Our Darwinian illiberals only know how to love in the generic. Their
hearts bleed for the minorities, the down-trodden and the outcasts -
but not for any individual. They are so busy "saving" the forest that
they don't care what happens to the trees. Driven by emotion and
blinded by slogans over substance, they ignore the long-term results
of their grand schemes. And they cause the destruction of those
they claim to help.
An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through
knowledge shall the just be delivered. Proverb 11:9
We need real knowledge, not slogans, to behave justly toward our
neighbors in this "global village". Because of their ignorance of
market forces, the rich progressives have become what they claimed
to hate - those who are willing to kill for fuel. That's right, friends,
the bio-diesel that fuels the cars of caring environmentalists is
causing the starvation of poor consumers in the developing world.
Deutche Welle, the German news company, has been reporting for
weeks now that Africans can't buy the grain that they usually get
from Europe because it is being converted into fancy fuel for the
eco-friendly elites. With even the U.S. Federal government
mandating the production of this luxury gas, the world can brace
itself for more hunger and suffering.
He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing
shall be upon the head of him that selleth it. Proverbs 11:26
The secret that the socialists never seem to learn is that unfettered
trade - selling people what they want - is the best way to distribute
scarce resources in a fallen world with finite resources. The specter
of scarcity and death stalks all programs that involve central
planning to distribute products more "fairly". But just as babies
must die because feminists love them so much, rural peasants must
starve because the elites love Africa so much that they are prepared
to save it from "climate change" even if Africans must starve in the
process.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools... Romans 1:22
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be
watered also himself. Proverbs 11:25
The word "liberal" describes the virtue of generosity - giving
generously out of love is to behave like God, who gave His own Son
for sinners. Nothing is less liberal than modern welfare schemes
that advocate the coerced "contribution" of other people's money
with little concern for the long-term effects. To paraphrase the late
Canadian folk-singer Stan Rogers,
The government dole
Will rot their soul.
The people of the developing world need a hand up rather than a
hand out; business not bullying, salesmen not socialism, trade not
tyranny - and food not fancy fuel. How many Africans will die so that
first-world do-gooders can feel like they are saving the world?
